Hi there
my name is Matthias Wenz, I’m a digital media student from Karlsruhe, Germany. I’m studying at “Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Mosbach” (formerly known as “Berufsakademie Mosbach – University of Cooperative Education”). My studies are divided in parts where I study at the university which are alternating with parts where I work in a company for training. I’m working at 1&1 Internet AG in Karlsruhe, mainly as a software developer.
Most of my work is dedicated to developing our technical infrastructure or in more detail in automatically “inspecting” it. We are mainly using JEE middleware, such as our own web framework Pustefix. Right now I’m working on mobile software development – mainly for the iPhone, Blackberry and Android.
Projects
Besides that I’m also working on several software development projects in my free time, mostly as a freelance developer. I’m very familiar with the entire Java platform, and also with several other parts to it like the Groovy dynamic language or the Groovy-based Grails Framework. I’m also very focused on usability: “Joy of use” is very important to me, I believe in that users have to love what they work with 9-5, 5+ days a week. I’m fascinated by the possibilities of the new generation of mobile devices like the iPhone and the architecture of mobile frameworks like Cocoa Touch or Android. I strongly believe in open standards and protocols – open source and free software does mean a lot to me.
Hobbies
What’s there besides developing software? I love photography, filming, creating virtual reality scenes or animations. I really like the fact that there is this “media” or “design” component to my education/studies that also drives me forward. This separates me from many other developer who only have programming in mind.
I loved to play Volleyball and going hiking if the weather is good.
Oh, and sorry for the hilarious photo, usually I’m the guy behind the camera ;-)
